While assuring that more and more efforts would be made in order to raise awareness about the "barbaric" practice, the Prime Minister committed abut a national summit on the same. "We do not know how widespread this practice is in Australia but we know there have been instances, and anecdotal evidence suggests these are not isolated", said Gillard while explaining that there would be new research and data collection in order to track down female victims living in Australia who are getting the desired support. Furthermore, it has been confirmed that Attorney-General Nicola Roxon would be leading the review which would shed light on how women are being protected against the practice and what all needs to be done to further strengthen the legal framework. Medical Centre Fails to Cope Ambulance Ramping

Image
A Health has made a number of efforts to keep the beds free at Flinders Medical Centre in Adelaide. But, as per a recent report, all efforts are likely failing since the problem of ramping was again seen at the hospital. The scenario has been highlighted by the ambulance officers' union. It has been told that Wednesday, a back-up of three ambulances was caused at times due to blockages in the emergency department. SA Health has also agreed that the medical centre has seen lengthy delays. However, the South Australian Government has affirmed that health specialist Dr. Mark Monaghan's reviews all 52 recommendations. The report finds that a patient had to wait outside A&E in an ambulance for more than an hour. And it was indeed an extremely busy day as a total of 215 patients had been seeking to be admitted in the emergency ward. Therefore only, a spokeswoman said that Flinders is one of the hospitals performing best on the grounds of turnaround time. "There&

Over 750,000 People Affected by Norovirus

Image
The Health Protection Agency (HPA) has informed that there are more than 750,000 people who have been affected by norovirus in the UK. The season is expected to get worse than ever, but the HPA said they are not able to detect the reason for the same. While explaining the rise in the number, an HPA spokesman said with every reported case there are 288 unreported cases of norovirus. This means that there are 757,440 people who are affected by norovirus, which is said to be a 72% increase. "Laboratory confirmed reports represent only a small proportion of the actual amount of norovirus activity in the community, because the vast majority of affected people do not access health care", said a spokesperson from the HPA. John Harris, an expert of norovirus, said they have witnessed a mild decline in the number of cases been reported. As per December 2, 236 cases were reported and 327 cases were reported till November 25. It is needed that people should remain conscious

EPA plans review of Ford's gas mileage claims

Image
According to a Los Angeles Times report, theEnvironmental Protection Agency (EPA) is apparently planning a review of Ford's gas mileage claims for two of its new hybrid vehicles - C-Max and Fusion - after Consumer Reports' (CR) recent findings that the hybrids fall short on the claimed fuel economy. The EPA's reported review plans for the two Ford hybrids come over a month after its earlier probe which revealed that Hyundai Motor and its associate, Kia Motors, had inflated their vehicles' fuel economy by at least one mile per gallon. The agency's interest in Ford's MPG claims for the two hybrids has been aroused after a report by a leading magazine like CR, which has revealed that the tests run on C-Max and Fusion have shown that Ford's miles per gallon (MPG) claims for the vehicles are inflated. Going by the CR findings, Ford's fuel economy claims for C-Max and Fusion fell short by nearly 20 percent --- while the Ford estimates show that the

Facebook to remove voting from its site governance structure

Image
Facebook is apparently set to implement the new versions of its Statement Of Rights And Responsibilities (SRR) and Data Use Policy; after its Tuesday announcement of the official, audited results of the company's last voting on `site governance' policies. With less than 1 percent of the Facebook users participating in the site governance vote - 589,141 users opposing the changes, and 79,731 users supporting them -, Facebook said that the outcome of the vote gives it the ability to remove the voting mechanism from its governance structure. Revealing that the proposed changes - which will essentially change the 2009-instituted rule that enabled the social network to make policy changes only if it received more than 7,000 comments to a site-wide vote back - will become effective immediately,Facebook said that it has "decided to adopt the proposed updates to our SRR andData Use Policy" without delay. However, the social network also added alongside that even tho

New blood test to detect Alzheimer’s & cancer

A blood test that is used for antibodies which is a protein produced by the immune system may soon be used to detect Alzheimer’s and other diseases including some forms of cancer. Detecting the Alzheimer's via antibodies would be a simpler and less invasive method of diagnosing the disease. Typically, in developing blood test for diseases, researchers searched for antigens that are a protein secreted from a virus, bacteria, from some cancerous cells or in neurological conditions like Alzheimer’s that set off an immune response.  Only after identifying the antigen, the researchers would be able to search for antibodies or trace the signs that the immune system that has picked up and mounted a response. In Alzheimer's, or in a disease such as cancer, there is quite difficult to find out the antigens.  But researchers are doing ‘high throughput’ screening using thousands of synthetic molecules known as peptoids that could be bind with the antibodies.  The synthetic m

Hundreds of Dead Squid Gather on California Beach

Though, researchers have observed their thoughts of committing suicide in fury. They have been unable to trace the reason behind this kind of behavior in squid. They only say that it is weird to see them taking their own lives. "It can make people a little uncomfortable. With a squid that big, it's nothing to scoff at, but there has been no documentation of them trying to eat a human", Ms. Rosen was quoted by sources. As per the findings, the dead squid is Humboldt squid, which has taken its named from the Humboldt Current, as they live there off the South America coast. It has been told that the squid can be seen in the eastern Pacific down from 660 to 2,300 feet. However, these creatures seem moving northwa

10 Most Incredible Indian Cave Temples

Image
Imagine being so powerfully determined in your devotion to your god that when confronted with a vertical stone mountain, your first thought is: 'I must carve this into a cave temple with my bare hands'. Centuries ago, Indian monks and artists would take years creating incredible rock-cut architecture manually out of sandstone, cliffs, and rock formations. After this amazing feat was achieved, they would then intricately design the walls with carvings and murals, and fill the interior with statues. India's cave temples show early traces of human life and culture and the importance of Hinduism and Buddhism in the country's history. 1. Ellora Caves, Maharashtra The 30 caves of Ellora were carved out of a vertical face of the Charanandri hills in the 5th century AD. The cave temples are devoted to Buddhism, Hinduism, and Jainism – demonstrating the religious harmony of the time. The Buddhist caves were primarily designated as monasteries, the Hindu caves boast
