Allocate $200 million For Dementia Research, urges Buttrose
If Alzheimer's Australia president Ita Buttrose is to be
believed, approximately 300,000 Australians are suffering from Alzheimer's. If
steps are not taken to improve the condition, the number is going to triple by
2050, said Buttrose.
This is the reason that Buttrose has asked the government to
fund $200 million for dementia research. A report has been made on the same
topic, which was being presented in Canberra. The report, being presented by
David Kalisch, Director of the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare
(AIHW), revealed the news.
He was of the view that 25 people have to lose their lives
due to dementia every day. It is evident that things need to be improved, as
otherwise they can go out of control.
After considering all these factors, Buttrose has urged the
government to fund the research. Buttrose has asked that the government the
amount should be allocated to them from 2013-14 budget.
"In this world, of course, you never get all you want,
but that should not stop any of us trying and will certainly not stop me”,
affirmed Buttrose. It is expected that the fundings will be approved for the
research.
