An Increasing Demand for Disability Services All Over Australia
According to a recent report, all over Australia, there has
been noticed a 45% increase in the demand and use of disability services in
last five years. It simply indicates that the pressure on health system is growing
with a fast pace which makes it crucial for them to find out a solution as soon
as possible.
Aiming to introduce a new system, the Federal Government has
already started working with the states and territories to check out test sites
for a national disability insurance scheme.
On Friday, a report was released by the Australian Institute
of Health and Welfare which clearly showed that under the ongoing National
Disability Agreement (NDA) in 2010/11, an amount of $6.2 billion is being spent
by the governments on overall services.
However, the total amount that will be required for
performing this new scheme is unknown and in what ways the government will
collect it, has not been decided yet. But just for the trials, an amount of $1
billion has been set aside.
As compared to the ratio of people using these services in
2005-06, presently more than 314,000 people are in the queue. With an increase
of 45% since then, the rate of service use has reached one in 71 from one in 94
Australians.
